Radiance of the Desert - Delicate Arch at Sunset

Located in eastern Utah, Arches National Park boasts over 2,000 natural sandstone arches, including the iconic Delicate Arch. The park is renowned for its breathtaking red rock formations, scenic hiking paths, and stunning desert vistas, offering plenty of opportunities for photography enthusiasts. Delicate Arch itself stands at an impressive 16 meters, a freestanding natural wonder and a widely recognized symbol of Utah. Visitors looking to experience this marvel can embark on a 4.8-kilometer round-trip hike starting from the Wolfe Ranch trailhead. The moderately challenging trail features slickrock slopes and some exposure to heights, but the effort is rewarded with incredible views of the arch and the surrounding landscape.

Initially, Arches National Park wasn't part of our itinerary. However, after hearing glowing recommendations, we decided to make a small detour and spend the night there. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated and immediately considered it one of the top national parks we've ever visited. We hiked up to Delicate Arch just before sunset, excited to catch the evening light and capture the Milky Way. The hike itself was pleasant, with a few friendly encounters along the way. Caution is necessary near the arch, as the drop-offs can be steep, and a loose item like a camera or water bottle could easily roll off. After sunset, more people arrived for stargazing, and we were able to take some great shots and time-lapse videos. As we made our way back down, we met a fellow traveler from Singapore who joined us for the descent, which was slightly tricky in the dark. The surprise of the night? We spotted a scorpion on the trail!
