Starlit Majesty - Bixby Creek Bridge Under the Perseid Meteor Shower

The Bixby Creek Bridge, an iconic concrete arch structure along California’s Highway 1, offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and has become one of the most photographed bridges in the United States since its completion in 1932. Each year, the bridge’s dramatic coastal setting is further illuminated during the Perseid Meteor Shower, which peaks in mid-August, when Earth passes through debris from the Swift-Tuttle comet, producing up to 100 bright, fast-moving meteors per hour against the night sky.

During the peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower, we were in San Francisco, but over the next few days, we made our way back to Los Angeles via the scenic Highway 1. Hoping to get lucky and capture some meteors, we stumbled upon the breathtaking Bixby Creek Bridge. After some exploration, we found the perfect spot on a small hill next to the bridge, accessible by a hidden trail, where we set up the camera for a five-hour shoot. As we waited, we enjoyed a gorgeous sunset over the Pacific and passed the time watching a TV series in the car. Although we only managed to capture a few meteors, it was still worth it—the cars passing by created beautiful light trails, illuminating the bridge and adding a dynamic touch to our photos.
