Torchlit Dreams: The Arching Milky Way at Roque de los Muchachos

La Palma, one of Spain's Canary Islands, is renowned as a stargazing paradise, thanks to its pristine skies and strict light pollution regulations. At the heart of this astronomical haven lies Roque de los Muchachos, the island’s highest peak, towering at 2,426 meters above sea level. This mountain offers unobstructed views of the heavens, free from atmospheric interference, making it a prime location for observing celestial wonders. Home to one of the world's most advanced observatories, it attracts both professional astronomers and amateur stargazers. The combination of altitude, clear skies, and minimal light pollution creates an unparalleled experience for capturing the brilliance of the Milky Way and countless other cosmic phenomena.

Back in March 2025, I took a short trip to La Palma with a friend for some astrophotography. It was an intense five nights with little sleep and constant battles against bad weather. Despite the challenges, we managed to capture some incredible shots, including this one. You can find more about our experiences and photos in my blog entry.
