Diamond Ring – Pre Totality (Total Solar Eclipse 2026)
On August 12, 2026, I travelled to Spain with friends to photograph the total solar eclipse. After months of preparation and planning, the moment finally arrived. Experiencing the Moon gradually moving across the Sun and witnessing the final moments before totality was an extraordinary and unforgettable experience.
This photograph captures the Diamond Ring just before totality, as the last intense ray of sunlight shines through a valley along the Moon's edge. At this fleeting moment, the bright point of sunlight creates the characteristic diamond-like appearance, while the faint solar corona begins to emerge around the dark lunar disk.
The image was taken without a solar filter during the final moments before totality. The Diamond Ring appears for only a very short time, making it a particularly dramatic transition between the bright partial eclipse and the darkness of totality.
