Diamond Ring – Post Totality (Total Solar Eclipse 2026)
On August 12, 2026, I travelled to Spain with friends to witness the total solar eclipse of 2026. After months of planning, we finally experienced the breathtaking moment when the Moon completely covered the Sun and totality began and ended within just a few moments.
This image captures the Diamond Ring immediately after totality, when the first rays of sunlight emerge from behind the Moon. As the Moon moves further away from the centre of the Sun, a single brilliant point of sunlight shines through a valley along the lunar limb, creating the characteristic Diamond Ring effect. At the same time, the delicate solar corona is still visible around the dark lunar disk.
The photograph was taken without a solar filter, during the brief transition out of totality. This fleeting moment lasts only a few seconds, making the Diamond Ring one of the most spectacular and challenging moments to capture during a total solar eclipse.
